Story

The Story is about a young couple Sreedhar (Jishnu), a non-practicing Doctor & full time un-successful writer & Anju, a publicist. Annum Innnum Ennum deals with the lives of these two, their problems and many characters they encounter at various stages of lives

Evaluation

The film is a take or modern, nuclear families. Story line is reminiscent of 'Life in a Metro' (may be thats why UTV is the distributor of the film). Much wasn't heard about the movie before release, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Its a sugar coated filmatic representation of  family lives mainly in metros.

The first half is a treat to watch flots of humor, in the second half the movie drags a bit but since the length is just 120 mins its doesn't go to the extend of boredom. Jishnu has given a riveting, knock-out perfomance as the writer suffering 5 year long writers block. The supporting cast also did their part well. Direction, Editing, Camera was OK. BG was good, had a Gopi Sundar hang over to it (Don't know if if he himself did it). There's just one song in the movie comes along with end credits.

The movie also features Late Great Thilakan in a small role. I thnk Venu (Comedy stars fame) dubbed for him, and did a neat job.

Over all its a an entertainer of new gen families with few new gen elements incorporated

Verdict: Above Average - Worth Watch

Box Office: Lack of promotion & noted star cast could affect the movie

Rating: 2.75/5

Kareena Kapoor's 'HEROINE' - Exclusive Movie Review by Sree Prasad Nair

Heroine : Exclusive Movie Review

Written & Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala / Madhur Bhandarkar
Starring Kareena Kapoor , Arjun Rampal , Divya Dutta & Randeep Hooda

Theater - Abu Dhabi National Cinemas, UAE
20/09/2012 - 9.30 pm
Occupancy - 100% (Sold out) & next show too soldout

National Award Winning Director Madhur Bhandarkar is always famous for his realistic women-centric films. Be it Chandni Bar, Page 3, Fashion or his Award Winning Traffic Signal his films were always hard hitting and welcomed by both critics as well as audience. His new film Heroine is releasing tomorrow all over India. Heroine is in news from the the day its casts were announced. Bhandarkar approached Kareena to do the main lead role. But she refused to do sighting the role has many intimate scenes. Later the role was offered to Aishwarya Rai and she accepted it. But after few days of production began, Aishwarya left the film due to her pregnancy and it created a lot of controversy between Bhandarkar and Bachchan Family. Finally Bhandarkar re-approached Kareena Kapoor and convinced her to do the film. Also Heroine releasing on Kareena’s Birthday (September 21st)
Heroine is the story of Mahi Arora played by Kareena Kapoor, and her controversial relationships with Superstar Aryan Khanna played Arjun Rampal and Cricketer Angad Paul played by Randeep Hooda. Her main aim was to become the No.1 actress of her times. Will she succeeds in that? Was her True Love
ever going to be successful? Was Mahi going to lose everything she cared for OR was there any way of saving herself to emerge as her dream of a true Heroine?
First Lets go straight to the Positives of The Film
There were rumours that Heroine’s story is a mix of Fashion, Page 3 & Dirty Picture. Well the truth is that Heroine has no resemblance with DirtyPicture or Fashion or Page3! Heroine is 100% ORGINAL! The story written by the Bhandarkar himself and the screenplay by Anuraadha Tewari and Manoj Tyagi (both worked with Bhandarkar’s earlier films) are brilliant. A big applause should go to Bhandarkar for showcasing the real truth and the dirty politics happening in Bollywood through Heroine. Bhandarkar has never shamed from telling the dirty truth happening in film industry through his movies and Heroine is no exception. One of his finest works. Cinematographyby Mahesh Limayeis good. Music by Salim-Sulaiman is excellent with the chartbuster ‘Halkat Jawani’.
Kareena Kapoor is ROCKED as Mahi Kapoor. No two opinions on that. Reserve all Filmfare, Zee Cine, Stardust, IIFA Awards for 'Mahi Arora! Be it for her innocent or jealous character, her strong emotions or dare to bare act, or for using shockingly foul languages, above all for her excellent brave acting & Yes Kareena’s acting is an EPIC !!! While watching the film I tweeted ‘Last week it was chote bhai Ranbir's #Barfi , This week it's badi deedi #Kareena's #Heroine. Those who loved Kareena for her JabWeMet’s Geet are going to adore Mahi Arora of Heroine! Also she looks million bucks hot in both Title song & Halkat Jawani.
Arjun Rampal is good, though there is not much scope for him to show his versatility. Randeep Hooda is superb in a short but significant role. Talented actress Divya Dutta is excellent as always. Ditto are Ranvir Shorey and Shahana Goswami. Sanjay Suri & Mugdha Godse are effective in their limited roles. Remaining supporting cast is good.
But on the negative side, The film loses its pace in the second half. The song picturised on Randeep-Kareena was not needed. Few scenes/foul languages should have avoided. Compared to first half, second drags a bit and more towards the climax. Climax is too ordinary. But these negatives won’t harm Heroine if you look at the overall execution and Kareena’s power packed performance.
Overall, Heroine is another brave film coming fro-m Madhur Bhandarkar. Don’t get surprised if Heroine opens to a bumber response at the box office. A 8-9crore is on the cards on the opening day with a weekend around 32 crores. I’m sure that Heroine will be loved for its realistic story and will bag many awards this year. A sure shot super hit !!!

Verdict : HAPPY HEROINE HIT BIRTHDAY TO KAREENA KAPOOR

Rating – 3.5/5

P.S - Aishwarya Rai’s MISS is Kareena Kapoor’s EPIC

Barfi : Exclusive Movie Review - A Mallu's View From UAE

Written & Directed by Anurag Basu
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala / Siddharth Roy Kapoor
Starring Ranbir Kapoor , Priyanka Chopra & Illeana D’cruz
Barfi - Movie Review by Sree Prasad Nair
Theater - Abu Dhabi National Cinemas, UAE
13/09/2012 - 9.30 pm
Occupancy - 100%

Ranbir Kapoor is considered as the most promising actors in the current generation. The actor had won all the awards last year for best actor with his rocking performance in last release Rocktar! Barfi is his only film to be releasing on 2012. Barfi is directed by Anurag Basu, the film maker of successful films like Murder, Gangster & Life In A Metro. However his last film was a disaster, much over hyped Hrithik Roshan starrer Kites. Barfi will be the second film of Priyanka Chopra with Ranbir after the average grosser Anjaana Anjaani. Also Barfi introducing the South Indian actress Illeana D’cruz into Bollywood.
Barfi is the sweet story of Murphy played by Ranbir Kapoor. But everyone calls him Barfi! Even though he can neither speak nor listen, he is a total prankster and a charmer. His bitter-sweet relationship with two girls, Shruti played by Ileana D’cruz and Jhilmil, a girl with autism played by Priyanka Chopra sets in motion a chain of events that will turn his life upside down! A heart-warming tale of selfless love and about finding happiness in the smallest things in life, that tells you no matter how tough your life may be, “DON’T WORRY – BE BARFI”

Let’s go straight to the Positives of the film :
The script written by the director Anurag Basu himself is the real winner. His direction is an epic experience. I doubt many of you know that Mr. Basu was diagnosed with cancer during the shoot of Tumsa Nahin Dekha in 2004. But he is a fighter! His last film, Kites was a disaster at the BO also gave many negativity for Basu. But with Barfi, he is back on the right track. While watching I was wondering is this the same director who gave thriller hits Murder & Gangster to Bollywood. Mr.Basu was always famous for his thriller movies, but he proved that he can also take a good movie without any action or thriller stories. Cinematographyby Ravi Varman is magnificient. The beauty of the Darjeeling is just wow! Music by Pritam is excellent. Pritam-Anurag Basu team provided superhit music with their earlier works, Gangster & Life In A Metro scored a hatrick with Barfi. My personal favorites are Aila Barfi & Main Kya Karoon.
Ranbir Kapoor is awesomely excellent as Barfi. While watching the film I tweeted Being in the film industry for 21+ years, The Khans & Kumar are yet to deliver a Masterpiece like the one Mr.Ranbir Kapoor did in Barfii. I know it’s very early to compare Ranbir to these giants, but truth remains true for me. I don’t think any other actor other than Ranbir can pull off the roles with strong emotions yet funny expressions. He proved his versatility and flexibility with films like Raajneeti and Rockstar. If you loved him in Rockstar, you would fall in love all over again in Barfi. Don’t get surprised if you see Ranbir bagging all the best actor awards this year too. A National Award Winning Acting !!!

Priyanka Chopra is fantastic. It’s not easy to act the role of a girl with autism on screen and she surprises you with her brilliant acting. After Aitraaz, Fashion and 7Khoon Maaf, Barfi will be another feather in her career for her acting. The screen sharing between her and Ranbir is very good. Illeana D’cruz made a good debut with her sincere acting. She got a good screen presence. Still the role given to her could have been developed better. Saurabh Shukla as police officer is terrific and excellent in his funny scenes too. Akash Khurana, Ashish Vidyarthi (after a long time in a hindi film), Rupa Ganguly and Jishu Sengupta, are effective. Once the film got over I saw many audiences crying in the crowded hall, i.e Barfi won many hearts.
Not much negatives to say about Barfi. The second half dragged little bit. The script gets confused in between. Also the execution of the film at parts is same as like Rockstar. Also Ashish Vidyarthi’s telling the truth at the climax is little disappointed. That’s about it. Those won’t harm to a film like Barfi !
Overall, Barfi is a very well executed film in all prospects. No one is expecting the film to open an earth shattering response as it’s strictly in a Classic genre unlike masala films. As today’s audience are well enough to welcome good films content wise like Kahaani & Vicky Donor and thrash bad films like Players, Tezz and Joker, I’m sure that Barfi will be loved for its content and works for its credits. An opening of 7-8 crores with a weekend of 24cr-26cr is a safe bet for this film. The only factor which goes against the film is it won’t get much screen space as Heroine releasing next week and Oh My God and Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal on 28th.

Verdict : This Barfi is a sweet epic ! Highly Recommended

Rating – 4/5

P.S : Ranbir Kapoor as Barfi will be a tough contender for National Award 2012 along with Irfan Khan of Paan Singh Tomar . May The Best Actor Wins, Else it’s a slap for Jury !!!

Rowdy Rathore - Movie Review - Commercial Mega Blast 3/5

Directed by     Prabhu Deva

Produced by     Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ronnie Screwvala

Screenplay by     Shiraz Ahmed

Story by     Vijayendra Prasad, N Prakash

Music by     Sajid-Wajid

Cinematography     Santosh Thundiyil

Studio     UTV Motion Pictures

Distributed by     SLB Films

Release date(s)         1 June 2012

Rowdy Rathore - the immensely hyped return of Akshay Kumar as Actiok ka BAAP - delivers what it promised - a Mass Action fiesta with a heavy dose of South Indian [which now loved in Noth as well] Masalas.

The story is about Shiva (Akshay Kumar), a small 'Rowdy' who charms & steals not only wealth but also every ladies heart in a blink. Shiva falls in love with Priya (Sonakshi Sinha), a pretty and smart girl from Patna. Into this enters six year old Neha who  believes Shiva to be her father -Vikram Rathore [Akshay Kumar]. The further movie deals with what changes and responsibilities does this little girl brings to his life and how he becomes the only hope for people of a small town in Bihar to get rid of a ruthless MLA [Nasser] and his mafia goons.

Those who have seen the original either Vikramarkudu or Siruthai may find this one less appealing [provided you are not an Akshay Fan]. But for the majority of its core target audience this will be a perfect entertainment treat post IPL season that everyone was looking for.Its the perfect blend of comedy, over the top action, songs, dance, dialogues etc-  everything that we were expecting from such a movie

Positives

1. Akshay Kumar - Rocked as rowdy but tad disappointing as Rough & Tough Vikram Rathore [even though its short in Length]

2. Songs - Eventhough every single one of them is lifted from various hit South Indian tracks, its full on Masti

3. Prabhudeva's direction - he sticked to the original, didn't try to many experiments [just like 'Wanted']

4. Comedy, Action, Dance etc

5. Camera Editing BG everything suited the mood of the film

6. South Indian actor Nasser rocked  as the villain goon/land lord - one of his best perfomance

Negatives

1.Sonakshi Sinha - Big Disappoinment - She went from Terrific in Dabangg to Terrible no where near Anushka Shetty eventhough better than Tamanna [in Siruthai]

2. 'Dadang Dang' Song -Horrible Choreography, Sonakshi looked terrible

3. Too much violence for family audience

4. Strong Telugu Flavour

5. On Comparison with the original this is an inferior product, Akshay couldn't match upto Ravi Teja

6. The hyped cameos by Tamil superstar Vijay & Kareena Kappor turned out to be duds [just like chitti in ra.one] - even fans like me didn't get the energy seeing them on screen thanks to the screwed up editing & camera

Verdict

A full on commercial mass masala action blast from Prabhudeva & Akshay

Box-Office

Already taken a thunderous opening, should break some records if Multiplex audience didn't reject the movie coz of the violence factor.

Rating: 3/5

[for those who have seen Vikramarkudu 2.5/5]

The Avengers - My Movie Review - 'Go Smash It' 4/5

Theatre: PVS Film City - Sapphire Active 3D screen

Finally saw the much awaited Marvel’s summer mega super hero bonanza ‘The avengers’ [1 week before its US release].  With small teasers of movie inserted into every marvel universe super hero movie since Ironman 1 the movie has generated considerable amount of curiosity & hype, before the shooting even began [Those who hasn’t seen or even heard about Ironman, Thor, Captain America & Hulk, I request you to watch it before you buy a ticket for this ultimate superhero multi starrer show down.

Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson), director of S.H.I.E.L.D [Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division] reactivates the Avengers Initiative as  Norse god Loki (Tom Hiddleston) steps through to Earth with the help of Tesseract, an energy source of unknown potential &  allied with the alien race the Chitaurii  to conquer Earth.

The First half is basically about finding all the members of the avenger’s initiative, assembling them and making them work together. The 2nd half involving the 30 min long climax deals with whether the avengers will be able to co-exist and save our planet from Loki.

Favourite Scenes

All scenes involving Tony Stark
Last 10-20 mins where Hulk SMASHES everything
Fight sequence between Black Widow & Hawk-eye
3D in the outer space scenes & the SHIELD Headquarters  breaking down scene

Positives

1.       Superb Direction & Screen play by Joss Whedon  – a perfect blend of action, humor, heroism and everything else than one expect from a superhero movie
2.       VFX – Super cool animation works, lots of jaw dropping moments
3.       Performances – All heroes gets almost equal importance in the film, even though its Hulk & Tony Stark/Ironman who walks away with most of the applause & whistles.  In fact it’s the quirky one liners of Tony Stark that makes the first half, with comparatively less action, more interesting. But towards the end of the movie especially the last 10-15 minutes its Hulk who steals the show & gets thunderous non-stop claps
4.       3D work is good, but not that great, tried to give detailing & depth to most of the scenes, but the film lacks eye-popping 3D effects. But there are certain awesome effects for you 3D lovers
5.       Is Fast paced, no time to think or relax
6.       Unlike transformers which also dealt with similar theme, this one has a Soul, backed up by outstanding script, dialogues, performance etc.

Negatives

1.       Can’t wait 2/3/4 years to watch avengers 2, hopefully  the good work will be kept up in  Ironman3, Thor 2 & Captain America 2 which acts as prequels to Avengers 2
2.       3D proved to be gimmicky, just like all other Hollywood movies

Verdict

Must watch for all Hollywood , super hero, action  movie buffs

Rating

4/5

Box Office
Just like Hulk, it has already started smashing records worldwide, when it releases in the US next week expecting a Box Office Tsunami

GO SMASH IT !!!!

Spoiler:  Like all Pre avenger movies, this one also has a small end credit scene, where the Chitauri leader tells his shadowy master that attacking Earth "would be to court death". The master turns to reveal himself as Thanos and smiles
