Expectation

The first attraction towards the movie was that it marks the debut of Mini Screen actress Rachana, who became quite popular through 'Marimayam' a weekly comedy sitcom. The Posters, Songs, Trailer etc increased the hype to even greater heights.

The theme of the movie is centered on the life of Ranjith (Jayaram) who aims to become a rich man. To become billionaire, Ranjith foresee two ways; take lottery tickets or to become a movie star.

Falling too short of his dreams, Ranjith meets junior artist Janaki (Rachana Narayanankutty) and their friendship later ends up in marriage. Ranjith and Janaki who were not ready to compromise other than becoming rich thought of another plan. The idea was to think about surrogacy- an arrangement in which a woman carries and delivers a kid for a different couple or individual. Moving forward with the idea, Ranjith and Janaki meet Dr Joseph Chittilappally, an infertility specialist and share their purpose of visit.

But what they expected didn't carry out as the couple land in trouble finding no way to get rid of it.
 Evaluation

Lucky Star is a complete family film that delivers what it promised. The first half is full of humour, while in the second half the movie turn completely serious. The movie has a Sathyan Anthikkad flavour to it, who is a mentor and great inspiration for Director Deepu

The storyline is similar to the 1989 Mohanlal classic 'Dasharatham', which one of the characters also mentions in the movie.

Jayaram has made a comeback through Luck star after a small gap. We also got glimpses of the old Mukesh, which sadly was limited just to the first half of the movie. Rachana has made a rocking debut in big screen, may be one of the most talked about/awaited heroine intro in Mollywood in years. Rest of the cast like Pooja Ramachandran [SS Music VJ, actress], Mamukkoya, Amu [Sun TV Anchor, VJ], Sreekumar [Marimayam fame] etc have also done good job.

Cinematographer has done a very good job, even though the DI [I think so] made it look dull in many scenes.  BG and Music was good. Editing was smooth and efficient.

The drastic change from comedy to serious can be a turn off for few people especially the mass, youth audience.  Serial like narration comes in places quite often. The 2nd half could have treated more lightly. The climax is similar to recent Sathyan Anthikadu movies - Haste and Unconvincing/Unsatisfying.

All in all Lucky Star will be a treat for Family audience, after a long gap, I think.

Go to the theater have a nice time with Lucky and his family

Story

The Story is about a young couple Sreedhar (Jishnu), a non-practicing Doctor & full time un-successful writer & Anju, a publicist. Annum Innnum Ennum deals with the lives of these two, their problems and many characters they encounter at various stages of lives

Evaluation

The film is a take or modern, nuclear families. Story line is reminiscent of 'Life in a Metro' (may be thats why UTV is the distributor of the film). Much wasn't heard about the movie before release, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Its a sugar coated filmatic representation of  family lives mainly in metros.

The first half is a treat to watch flots of humor, in the second half the movie drags a bit but since the length is just 120 mins its doesn't go to the extend of boredom. Jishnu has given a riveting, knock-out perfomance as the writer suffering 5 year long writers block. The supporting cast also did their part well. Direction, Editing, Camera was OK. BG was good, had a Gopi Sundar hang over to it (Don't know if if he himself did it). There's just one song in the movie comes along with end credits.

The movie also features Late Great Thilakan in a small role. I thnk Venu (Comedy stars fame) dubbed for him, and did a neat job.

Over all its a an entertainer of new gen families with few new gen elements incorporated

Verdict: Above Average - Worth Watch

Box Office: Lack of promotion & noted star cast could affect the movie

Rating: 2.75/5

Mr. Marumakan - My Movie Review

Directed by     Sandhya Mohan

Produced by     Maha Subair, Nelson Eapen

Written by     Udayakrishna, Siby K. Thomas

Starring

 Dileep
Sanusha
Bhagyaraj
Khushboo
Sheela
Biju Menon
Nedumudi Venu

Music by     Suresh Peters, Rajamani

Cinematography     P. Sukumar

Studio     Varnachitra Big Screen

Release date:     18 August 2012

Language     Malayalam

Story

Mr.Marumakan deals with Ashok Chakravarthy (Dileep) & his attempts to save his family properties from bank seizing them by marrying millioanire childhood friend Raja Lakshmi (Sanusha) and in the process teaching the lesson of love and life to Lakshmi's arrogant rich mother Raja Mallika (Khushbu) & grand mother Raja Kokila (Sheela) with the help of Balasubrahmanyam (Bhagyaraj) Mallika's husband.

The film is a non-stop rollicking no brainer entertainer with enough mass elements to make everybody happy, clap & whistle.

The film is once again an out an out Dileep-tainer. He is once again in top form after blockbuster Mayamohini. But its better than Mayamohini & Karyasthan , both again written by Udayakrishna, Siby K. Thomas duo. There is a deliberate attempt to project him as a superstar but without deviating from the comedy angle which made him click big time, especially with ladies & kids, and it worked to a T. Loved the way the flash back scenes were shown with clips from old films. Also loved the way they showed the titles with photographs everyone along with the names.

Khusbhu as the rich, arrogant mother in law was superb. She simply rocked in the role with grey shades and  stood along with Dileep in terms of screen presence. It was a treat to watch a near perfect Lip Sync eventhough Bagyalakshmi's sound felt a bit odd for her.

Bhagyaraj also did a very good job, a lengthy role after a while i think. The supporting cast of Biju Menon, Suraj, Baburaj, etc were also good, eventhough Sheila was bit over the top.

The BG was massy enough and suited the genre of the film pretty much eventhough a bit loud at times.
The Songs were average except the title track.

Like all Dileep films this one is also not free from double meaning jokes, eventhough few in number, but we saw even ladies ROFLing in Mayamohini, so not a big issue now a days i think.

The film at 2 hours 57 minutes drags at many places in the second half, need to trim by a good 15-20 minutes. There was no need of that rain song.

The story is a mix of many Tamil movies, which even featured Khusbhu & her husband Sundar.C !!

So All in all a perfect festive entertainer, Go and have a BALL this festive season

Verdict:

Festive Entertainer

Rating:

3.5/5

Box Office

Looking at the response after the show & the queue in front of theaters , it should be a Super Hit
